Patton, Jr.
James R. Patton, Jr., 88,
went to be with his Lord and
Savior on
Tuesday, November
2,
2010, while a
resident of the
Zerbe Sister's
Nursing Center.
He is survived
by his
wife of 15
years, Edith (Dykes), his son
and daughter-in-law, Ralph W.
and Grace (Sodergren) Patton,
Pikesville, MD, his daughter
and son-in-law, Merrie-
Lynn P. and Michael J. Keegan,
Morgantown, PA, three
grandchildren, Michael-Sean,
Christopher and Shannon and
a great granddaughter, Aurora.
He is also survived by a sister,
Nancy, wife of Alex
Zanizanian of Longwood, FL,
and a brother, Horace, of
Beachwood, NJ.
He was born in Philadelphia
on October 15, 1922 and
lived there until he was ordained
into ministry.
Preceding him in death
were his parents, Marian
(Wemple) and J. Russell Patton,
Sr., and his first wife, Dauris
(Wolfe) with whom he
shared more than fifty years
of marriage.
Mr. Patton was drafted into
the U.S. Army during World
War II and worked as a surgical
technician and a chaplain's
assistant in the Philippine Islands.
He graduated from Reformed
Episcopal Seminary,
Philadelphia, in 1951 and from
Temple University in 1952.
He was ordained into the
Presbyterian Church in 1952
and served nine churches
throughout Pennsylvania and
New Jersey during his fifty
years of ministry. Throughout
his ministry he enjoyed counseling
those in need and did
volunteer work as a grief
counselor.
He actively participated in
Christian Endeavor throughout
his entire life and served
as Pastoral Counselor and in a
variety of committee positions
for Christian Endeavor in the
different areas where he
lived.
He enjoyed trains, steam
locomotives in particular,
reading, traveling when he
was able and talking with his
grandchildren.
The viewing will be held at
11:00 AM on Tuesday November
9, 2010 with the service to
follow at 12:00 PM at Furman
Home for Funerals, 59 W.
Main St., Leola, PA. Burial will
be in the Uniontown
Methodist Cemetery, Uniontown,
MD, at 3 p.m.
