Sylvia Ruth Kreider

Sylvia's life on this earth ended Thursday, September 27th, 2018. She was born on June 13, 1942. She died peacefully at home, in the presence of family members. She was the beloved wife of John N. "Ned" Kreider, Lancaster, PA. They were high school sweethearts, and celebrated 56 yrs. of marriage in June.  Their children - daughter Catherine A. Kreider, New York, NY, son Peter E. (Beth Campbell) Kreider, Brooklyn, NY; grandson Spencer L. Kreider, Brooklyn, NY;. sisters - Susan Markley, Neffsville, PA, Kathleen (Larry) Harrison, Crisfield, MD, Joan (Lamar) Stoltzfus, Estero, FL; brother Richard E. (Cyndy) Steffy, Jr., Clay, PA; her parents - the late Richard E. and Virginia M. (Rhoads) Steffy.

Sylvia graduated from Conestoga Valley High School and Millersville University. She taught first grade at Smoketown Elementary. Following the birth of her children, she combined her teaching skills with her love of music and dance to become a fitness instructor, a career which lasted over forty years. Sylvia also enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and was a voracious reader. Sylvia loved to shop, and her wardrobe was always chic; it was also largely composed of items she found on the bargain racks. She enjoyed driving her red Triumph roadsters.

Sylvia was an active member of her church, and served on the Consistory. She also taught Sunday school, and was a long time member of several committees.

We want to acknowledge the many prayers, cards, flowers, and acts of kindness and support extended during Sylvia's illness. They often arrived "just when we needed them most".

The family would like to thank the following organizations: the doctors and staff at the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Center, the doctors and surgeons at LGH/PM, the nurses and staff on Eight Lime at LGH/PM, the entire staff at Hospice and Community Care, and the staff at Manheim Township Parks & Recreation. Their contributions to Sylvia's struggle with cancer enabled her to maximize the time in this period of her life to the greatest possible extent.

There will be a memorial service at Hamilton Park UCC at 1210 Maple Ave. in Lancaster on Friday, October 5th, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends after the service.
