Shaiebly, age 92, of Calvary Fellowship
Homes in Lancaster,
formerly of Leola was called home to be with the Lord Jesus on January 11, 2017. He was the son of
the late Willis K.and Mary H. Shaiebly. After the death
of his first wife Vera Sneath Shaiebly, he married Margaret (Meg) Fox, a former
missionary to people of Japan.
He and Vera
owned and operated
the Leacock Barber Shop in Leola beginning
in 1957 and until it was sold in 1994. He continued barbering there until 1997 and also at Calvary Fellowship Homes until September, 2007. Earl always tried to do
his best to please his customers.
Earl was a
1942 graduate of the Millersville-Manor township high school in Millersville. Involved in music much
of his life, he was
student director of the high school concert band. He completed a course in
Band conducting offered by Penn State under
the leadership of Col. George S. Howard, a retired US Air Force Band director. After high school he played trombone in several town
bands including
Rohrerstown, Conestoga's General Reynolds, and
New Holland during World War II. He played ina band put together by a Manheim township Justice of Peace, Squire McGrann who earlier had been a trombonist for the famous march
king, John Phillip Sousa. For a number of
years, Earl played
his trombone in churches in Lancaster
County and at Lancaster Youth for Christ. Eventually he
had to put the horn aside due to physical
difficulties.
He served the Lord with Lancaster Youth for Christ
being on the Board for a period of time, also was a member
of their male quartet and a song-leader at their Saturday night rallies. Beginning in the 1950s
and through the 1960s, he, his wife and children sang together as a family at YFC, churches and banquets in Lancaster and surrounding counties. Later he
and Vera enjoyed playing harmonicas together. For recreation he enjoyed playing games, sports, camping, fishing and touring on motorcycle. He was a member
of Calvary Church in Lancaster where he had earlier sung in the choir and was
an usher.
Surviving are, a son J. Gordon Shaiebly of Tulsa, OK., married to Geraldine (Jerrie), a daughter Cynthia Kay of Naples, FL., wife of Dr. Robert
Rinaldi. Also surviving him are 4
grandchildren, Tracy Hardy, Abby Bozarth,
Robin Rinaldi and Anthony Shaiebly, 6 Great-grandchildren,
3 step-children,Linda Sabatini of Lampeter, PA., Timothy Fox of
Georgetown, TX and
Gary Fox of Tucson,AZ. In addition there are 10 step-grandchildren
and 10 step-great-
grandchildren. A sister, Catherine Sheaffer preceded him in death.
At the
convenience of the extended family there
will be a private burial with interment in
the Masonville Mennonite Cemetery at Letort. A memorial service is scheduled
for Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel ofCalvary Fellowship Homes 502
Elizabeth Dr., Lancaster
with Pastor Paul Thompson officiating. Please
omit flowers. Any memorial contributions may
be made to the benevolent fund of Calvary Fellowship
