R. Eugene Bare, 89, died peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy.  Born in Bird in Hand, PA, he was the son of late Edwin K. and Erla H. Bare, and husband of 66 years to Nancy Lou (Spotts) Bare.

     For 86 years, Gene lived and worked on the farm where he was born. He actively embraced his role as steward of the land.  In addition to farming, he worked for General Tobacco Company, American Tobacco Company and Huber's Nursery.  Gene was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and a former member of Leacock Presbyterian Church and St. Peter's United Church of Christ.  Along with his love of family and nature, he enjoyed the game of baseball and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan.

     In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Cynthia Jeanne (Richard) Steffy, Jr. and son J. Richard (Peggy); grandchildren Neil (Ryan) Steffy, Brian Steffy, Keith Bare, and Kelly (Wesley) Miller; great-grandchildren Holden and Caden Steffy; and sisters Phyllis (Raymond) Zimmerman, Lois (Eugene) Hollinger, and Anna Margaret Bare.

     A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at Eagle Commons Woodcrest Villa, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
