Howard G. Landis

Howard G. Landis

Howard Landis, 88, passed away on November 10, 2017 at Garden Spot Village where he has lived for the past four years. Howard was born in Lancaster and was the only child of Ruth (Greider) Landis, who died days after his birth, and Clayton Landis.

Howard attended Lancaster Mennonite High School until his father was killed in a farm accident at which time he took responsibility for his family's farm. He later became a potato wholesaler and then co-founded Landis Foods.

Howard is survived by Lydia, his wife of 65 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Susanne Landis of Naples, Florida; his daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Stephen Brighenti of Washington, Connecticut, and four grandchildren; Alex, Ariana, Chad, and Stephen.

Howard enjoyed traveling, reading, winters in Florida, chess, and family get togethers. Earlier in his life, he had been an avid hunter, a volunteer firefighter with the Witmer Fire Company for many years, and on the Conestoga Valley School District board.

Howard was an active member of the Stumptown Mennonite Church for over 60 years and was confident that he had "fought the good fight," "finished the race," and "kept the faith."

A memorial service will be held at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Garden Spot Village Chapel from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Stumptown Mennonite Church Benevolent Fund, 2813 Stumptown Rd., Bird-in-Hand, PA 17505.
