Margaret E. “Peggy” (Bitzer) Koser, 86, of Landis Homes Retirement Community, formerly of East Lampeter Township, joined her late husband in Heaven on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 after a short illness.
Peggy and her husband, H. Eugene “Gene” Koser, were married for 60 years. Born July 5, 1932, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Catherine Bitzer, who were proprietors of Bitzer’s Hotel in Bird-in-Hand.
Peggy graduated from East Lampeter High School and continued to live in Lancaster County her entire life. She not only helped to run the family farm, but also worked in the cafeteria at Conestoga Valley High School for 33 years. She excelled at gardening and enjoyed spending time with family. Peggy was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by one son, Gerald “Jerry” Koser (husband of Judy); two daughters, Janice Fitch (wife of William) and Julie McMullen; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; sisters, Mary K. (the late Jetwood) Hensel, Nancy (Kenneth) Sweigart, Linda (Rodney) Mellott; brother, John “Jack" (Nancy) Bitzer. A brother, Donald Bitzer and a sister, Shirley Plank preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, with Pastor J. Calvin Wenger presiding. There will be a viewing at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Landis Homes' Caring Fund at 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, Pa. 17543.
