Miriam Miller Housman, 96, died May 6, 2025 at Landis Homes.

Born in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Lydia B. Horst Miller.

She was the wife of the late J. Harold Housman. They were members of E. Petersburg Mennonite Church. They both served in Nigeria with Christian Blind Missions. The congregation supported their work in East Africa for 17 years, sent by Eastern Mennonite Missions.

Miriam graduated from Eastern Mennonite University with a BS in Education. She taught at Locust Grove School, Smoketown, PA, Friends Select School, Philadelphia and International School, Moshi, Tanzania.

Many were blessed by her gift of hospitality and networking. Her commitment to Christ was steadfast and she faithfully served at church and in the community, with a heart for the needy. She was a generous soul and unafraid to be different. Miriam loved her family, teaching, reading, writing letters, growing and giving away her flowers.

She is survived by three children: John Pierre Housman, Arlington, TX; Ina Sue Fox (Alan), Bellingham, WA; Heidi Jean Oberholtzer (David), Mount Joy, PA; one sister, Esther Albin and sister-in-law Lois Burkhart Miller.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Oberholzer and brother, Clair Miller.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The internment will be private.

The family expresses their gratitude to Landis Homes and Hospice & Community Care for their excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Caring Fund” at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543
