Margaret Hazel (Harris) Kiger, 84, of Leola, passed away on Monday, July 20 at Legend of Lititz after a 2 ½ year battle with dementia.
Margaret was born in Winamac, Indiana, to Joseph T. Harris and Margaret E. (Skibbe) Harris. She was the youngest of six children, and the only daughter. She grew up on a farm in North Judson, Indiana, and lived in Wasilla, Alaska for a year when she was 9 years old. She graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1960, and went to secretarial school. She married Walter John Kiger on October 7, 1966, in Warsaw, Indiana. She worked for many years as a secretary at Da-Lite Screen Company before having children, and at Tri-State Advertising while her children were in school. In 1981, her husband John was transferred by Donnelly Printing Co., and the family moved to Lancaster, PA. She worked a variety of jobs there, including at West End Cleaners in both New Holland and Lancaster, and at Good and Plenty Restaurant in Smoketown. After John passed away in 2011, Margaret continued working until 2015. In her retirement, she engaged in her favorite hobbies including quilting and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter Amy Kiger-Williams (Chris Williams), Caldwell, NJ; her son, John Kiger, Leola, PA; five grandchildren, Charlotte, Madeline, and Benjamin Williams, and Zoie and Myla Kiger. She is also survived by one brother, Richard Harris of Chattanooga, TN, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four of her brothers, Harold, Kenneth, Edwin, and Robert Harris.
She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Services will be held on Wednesday, August 5 at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main Street, Leola. The viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am with a service immediately following. Interment will be at 1:00 pm at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Margaret’s memory to the Dementia Society of America or The Brain Research Foundation.
