John G. Swinehart, 77, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John Earl Swinehart and the late Catherine Goss Swinehart Snyder. He was the loving husband of Roberta J. “Bobbi” Kane Swinehart who died in 2016.
John was a welder and press and shear operator for Ford New Holland. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam. A member of Salem Evangelical Reformed Church Hellers, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, his guitar collection, antique cars, car shows, and casinos. He was also a member of the Building Bridges at Anderson Farm Vets group; the Millsboro DE American Legion and the Riverside Camping Assoc.
He will be lovingly missed by: his children, Tracy married to Duffy Summers Jr., John D. married to Rita Swinehart, both Lancaster, Tina married to Raymond Clare Jr., Conestoga; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Kenneth married to Patty Swinehart, Millsboro, DE, Gloria Kleinfelter, Leola; brother-in-law, Barry (Christine) Simpson, York; his companion, Carlyn Bowman, Lancaster. A sister, Donna Simpson preceded him in death.
Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2026 at Salem Hellers Church, 2555 Horseshoe Rd., Lancaster. Viewings: 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola and 1 hour before the service at the church. Interment: the adjoining cemetery.
