Amos L. Hess, 88, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Trillium Place. Amos was born in Pequea to the late Amos M. and Alma Mae Leaman Hess. He was the loving husband of Lorraine M. Gingrich Hess for 65 years. Amos was a tractor trailer driver for many years and an Amish taxi driver. He was proud of driving 2,000,000 miles without an accident. In his free time, he enjoyed yardwork and spending time with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Amos loved everyone and never met a stranger. He is remembered as a kind, generous, and fun-loving man. His greatest desire was that everyone would know Jesus and spend eternity in Heaven.
In addition to his wife, Amos is survived by four children, Kevin D. Hess, Janice L. Hess both of Lancaster, Rose wife of Gary Blantz, Doris J. wife of Lewis Zook, both of Leola; eight grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren; and siblings, John married to Anna Mary, Paul married to Elsie, Alma Grace married to the late Charles Forry, Walter married to Anna Lois, Harold married to Carol Ann, David married to Miriam, Daniel married to Jean, Naomi married to Lester Weber and Anna Mary married to Samuel Faust.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Esther Martin Hess.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff at Trillium Place.
A private burial will be held at Hershey Mennonite Church where Amos was a member. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Celebration of Life Service at Ephrata Community Church, 70 Clay School Road, Ephrata, on September 19, 2026 at 10:00 am.
