Deborah M. “Deb” (Shirk) Burns, 68, of New Holland, went home to be with the Lord on October 1st, 2026, at Hickory House Nursing Home. She was surrounded by the love and care of her devoted family.

Born in Lancaster, Deb was the daughter of the late Jay and Winona (Rock) Shirk.

Deb dedicated more than 20 years to serving as a paraeducator with Lancaster-Lebanon IU-13. She found great joy and purpose in her work, touching the lives of many students and forming friendships that lasted a lifetime. Her compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others were also evident in her more than 25 years of service as an EMT with New Holland Ambulance.

Above all, Deb treasured her family. In addition to her loving husband, Ragen, she is survived by their three children and their spouses: Jarred and Tara Burns of Denver; Justin and Kirsten Burns of Marion Center; and Kate and Matt Townsley of Ephrata. She was a deeply loved grandmother to Harper, Emmersen, Lily, Harlan, Riley, and Cole, who brought immeasurable happiness and pride to her life.

Deb is also survived by her brothers, Larry Shirk, husband of Judi, and David Shirk and his partner, Kathy; her mother-in-law, Rosene Burns; her brother-in-law, Ryan Burns; seven nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many beloved friends. Her family will remember her for the love she shared so freely, the care she showed to others, and the many meaningful ways she enriched their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Russell Shirk; and her father-in-law, Robert Burns.

Her family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff at both Hickory House and Penn Medicine LGH for their compassionate care for both Deb and her family.

A celebration of Deb’s life will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2026, at The Chapel at Garden Spot Village. 433 S. Kinzer Ave. New Holland. Visitation with the family will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in honor of Deb’s life and her lasting legacy of kindness, service, and love.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the PA Breast Cancer Coalition or to a charity of your choice.
