Alta Kurtz, 86, of Chandler, TX, formerly of Smoketown, passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Chandler Nursing Center. She was born on May 30, 1926, the daughter of the late Enos and Anna Martin. She was the wife of the late Albert Kurtz who died October 11, 2012. They were married 59 years. She studied to get her GED and then went on to graduate from the Lancaster General School of Nursing. She was employed at Lancaster General as an RN in the obstetrics unit. Later on in life, she was a Red Cross volunteer at Lancaster General. She was a member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church, Leola. She was a fun loving person and made many friends along the way. She will be remembered always. She enjoyed her family and latch hooking. She made rugs that she gave to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly missed by: a son, Duane L. husband of Pamela Hartman Kurtz, of Lancaster; a daughter, Janice wife of Harmon Lowman, of Murchison, TX; 5 grandchildren, Keri married to Michael Shultz, Albert Kurtz married to Cheyanne, Abby married to Jeremy Crosby, David Allsup, and Peter Allsup; 3 greatgrandchildren, Lexi, Christian, and Charlotte Shultz. Alta was one of twelve siblings. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Ellen married to Walter Olmstead, Doris married to Robert Seldomridge, and a brother, John married to Mary Ann Martin. She was preceded in death by: 4 sisters, Mary Miller, Rhoda Ramer, Elsie Martin, and Ruth Martin; and 4 brothers, Sam, Harry, Enos and Allen Martin. A memorial service will be held from Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Rd., Leola, PA 17540 on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2 PM. The family will visit with friends from 1 to 2 PM at the church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Forest Hills Mennonite Church in memory of Albert and Alta Kurtz.
