Our mother, Alva M. Teixeira, 93, of Lancaster, has joined our father John and our sister Rita in eternal glory on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. She was born on June 8, 1922 in Harrisburg, PA to Harry and Helen Minichan.
After moving to New York City as a young girl, our mother would often travel to the rolling hills of Lancaster, PA to visit and enjoy her beloved Aunt Myrt in Leola and Mt. Gretna-which she would also do into her adult years. Alva and her husband John retired to Lancaster in 1986.
Our mother loved to cook, sew, crochet, read and try various new crafts in which she would usually excel. Her family is left with loving memories of picnics, BBQs, Christmas dinners, Easter brunches, and all the delicious meals and wonderful conversations shared around her kitchen table.
Alva is survived by: two sons, Harry Bevil of Tampa, FL and Johnny Teixeira of College Point, NY, married to Patty; four daughters, Donna of College Point, NY, married to Danny Bartucci, Paula of Orlando, FL, married to Paul Savino, Toni of Wellesley, MA, married to Nick Rencricca, Mary (Tina) of Lancaster, PA, married to Dan Ward; son-in-law Mel Johnson of Brandon, FL, married to Rita (deceased); 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband John (2007) and her beloved daughter Rita (2015).
A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 11 AM. Viewing will be at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PMSunday, July 19, 2015 and Monday, July 20, 2015 from 6-8 PM. Interment will be Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in the East Harrisburg Cemetery in Harrisburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice benefiting children or Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
