Alvin F. Smoker, 89, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. He was the loving husband of Mildred O. Landis Smoker. They were married on Oct. 7, 1950. Born in Intercourse, PA, he was the son of the late Christ L. and Anna Mary Fisher Smoker. Mr. Smoker was a farm seed salesman for Hoffman’s Farm Seeds, Landisville and later for the Hubner Seed Co. He loved his work and his visits with his farmer clients over the years. A charter member of the Ridgeview Mennonite Church, he served in CPS in hospital work during WWII. One of his hobbies was two-way radios. He will also be missed by: his children, Terry married to Marg Smoker, Paradise, Mary Lou married to Mark Garratt, Goshen, IN, Charles married to Anne Marie Smoker, Japan, Tom married to Robin Smoker, Denver, Carol married to Mark Wiker, Lititz; 15 grandchildren; one greatgrandson; sisters, Buelah married to Walter Martin, New Holland, Anna Mary married to Ken Yoder, Goshen, IN, Lillian married to Roy Yoder, Belleville, Alma married to Clair Groff, Leola; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smoker, Lancaster; brother-in-law, Ferree Esbenshade Jr., New Holland. He was preceded in death by: a son, Jerry Lynn Smoker; a granddaughter, Alyssa Grace Garratt; a brother, Aquilla; a sister, Marion Esbenshade. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, 3723 Ridge Rd., Gordonville. Interment: the adjoining cemetery.
