Since 2000 when Mrs. Hoxie sold the family business, Hoxie Insurance Agency Inc., she traveled over much of the United States.  This insurance agency was started in 1972 by her husband, Cecil D. Hoxie.  She, with the assistance of her daughter, Erin and son, Scott, took over the management of the agency when her husband died in 1992.  The agency’s primary carrier was Erie Insurance Group.

She began her education at Mansfield State Teachers College, majoring in Music Education.  A Dean’s List student, she was elected treasurer of her class.  In high school she qualified many times for District and State Choruses in addition to winning numerous awards for public speaking.  She enjoyed singing at Leola United Methodist Church under the direction of Midge Lilley.

When her husband changed employment requiring the family to move to the Lancaster area, Mrs. Hoxie enrolled at Millersville State Teachers, changing her major to Economics with a minor in Comprehensive Social Studies.  She graduated Cum Laude.  She finished her Master’s Degree in Comprehensive Social Studies with a Certification in Counseling Education two and a half years later at Millersville.  She was a licensed career counselor and a member of the National Association of Career Counselors.  From the University of Scranton, she acquired a Supervisory Certificate.  In 1992, she was selected for a fellowship to Ohio State to study Middle Eastern Studies.

Surviving are her son, Scott T. Hoxie, of Winchester, VA and her daughter, Erin Hoxie, of Leola.  Also surviving are: a brother, David K. Dickinson, of Schultzville; a nephew, Glenn D. Dickinson, III, of Ephrata. She was preceded in death by brothers, Norman L. Dickinson, Charles R. Dickinson and Glenn D. Dickinson, Jr.
