Arlene Bender Schaal, 90, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in her home. Born at home in the community of Oregon, PA, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Maggie Steinmetz Bender and wife of the late Robert H. Schaal.
Arlene had been a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leola and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster. She worked for over 50 years at RCA in Lancaster and in sewing factories in Leola and Farmersville. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, hiking, and gardening.
Arlene is survived by her two daughters, Diane E., wife of Paul Sherwood, Diamond Bar, CA and Peggy A., wife of J. Richard Bare, Mount Joy; two grandchildren, Keith R. Bare, Lancaster, and Kelly M., wife of Wesley Miller, Biglerville. She was preceded in death by siblings Dorothy, Richard and Mahlon Bender, Mildred Swanger, Loretta Shaub, Josephine Sweigart, William Bender Jr., Pauline Stump, and Mereda Buckwalter.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery, 18 Quarry Road, Leola. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604 or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S. Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
