Barbara L. Hammer, 70, of Leola, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of Paul J. Hammer who died in 1997. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Styer and Charlotte (Hartz) and step-daughter of Dave Moore of Honey Brook.
A licensed practical nurse, Mrs. Hammer worked earlier for LGH and thereafter mostly in private duty nursing. An avid Ocean City, MD beachgoer, she loved being with family and friends. She attended Zion Lutheran Church, Leola.
Surviving are: daughter, Lisa Benner, Brownstown; son, Scott P. Hammer, Leola; two grandchildren, Amber Nicole Benner and Tara Louise Benner; step-father, Dave Moore husband of Betty, Honey Brook; siblings, Jim husband of Barb Fryberger, Janet Shoemaker, Dave Jr. husband of Kathy Moore, all of Honey Brook. A grandson, Ian Brown and a brother Lonnie Fryberger preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola. The family will greet friends from Noon to 1 p.m. Friday. Interment: Churchtown U. M. Cemetery.
