Carol Ann Sohn (nee Burke) of Lancaster, PA, beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the age of 90.

Carol was born in 1935 in Lynn, MA to the late Gordon and Sophie (“Betty” Chemelski) Burke.  She spent her youth in Salem, MA, and attended Salem High School.  In February 1964, she was married to the love of her life, Frank Myung-hi Sohn, at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Catholic Church in Newton Corner, MA.  The couple later moved to Lancaster County, PA, where they settled and adopted their two children.  She loved being a mother and devoted much of her life to raising her children.  She also attended Millersville College while she raised her children.  In her life she held various jobs, including working as a long-distance operator, owning her own children’s clothing consignment business and working in admissions at Lancaster Community Hospital; however, she considered her greatest job caring for her family.

She and her husband often hosted foreign students for the holidays and became godparents to the child of one of the students from Honduras.  They assisted a couple from Indonesia to settle in the U.S. and eventually helped them move to Canada and sponsored a young Polish refugee couple for settlement in the U.S. in 1983.

She was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in New Holland, PA.  She and her husband became involved in Worldwide Marriage Encounter in 1978 which led them to a life of deep faith and prayer.  Later she became one of the first three women to serve as Eucharistic Ministers in the parish. She felt particularly blessed to be able to serve at Mass for over 30 years with her husband Frank.  She and her husband were marriage mentors in their parish, helping to provide faith-filled guidance for couples entering marriage.  After retiring, she and her husband moved to Homestead Village in Lancaster and joined St Leo’s Church where she enjoyed studying the Bible.  She had a talent for creative endeavors like sewing, painting and drawing, and interior decorating. She enjoyed reading and living a life of prayer and faith.  Her greatest love, though, was spending time with her husband; they rarely spent a day apart from one another.

She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband Frank Myung-hi Sohn to whom she was married for 61 years, her daughter Hilary Sohn (Michael Brassell) of Exton, PA and her son Michael Sohn (Andrea). She was preceded in death by her sister Judith Modine. She is also survived by her sisters Sandra (Vincent) Scagliotti and Lynda Burke, and her niece Heather (Tim) Rodgers. She will be greatly missed.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. – Psalm 73:26

The family offers their deepest gratitude to the loving and devoted staff of Homestead Village and of Hospice & Community Care for their care and support of Carol and the entire family during the last several months of her life.

Services will be held at St. Leo’s Roman Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA, on Thursday, February 26, 2026, with Visitation at 10:00 AM and Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM.  Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Homestead Village immediately following.  Interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care.
