Danny Zampino, 84, of Lancaster passed away on Friday, July 12, 2013 at United Zion Retirement Community, Lititz. Born in Bronx, New York, he was the son of Frank and Catherine (Dattero) Zampino, who both had immigrated from Italy. He was married to life-long best friend, Brigid (Cardone) Zampino, for 59 years.

Danny served in the U. S. Army (the “Hell on Wheels” Unit) from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed, among other places, in Germany and Texas. He worked first for the US Postal Service and then for the New York Public Library in Manhattan, where he performed many services including locksmithing, mechanical repairs, and building maintenance. After retiring and moving to Lancaster, he worked part-time for Weis Market. He had a passion for woodworking and, working from his basement shop, made many beautifully designed and detailed gifts for family and friends over the years. Every job he ever undertook was performed with dedication, excellence, and love. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Lancaster.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by: two sons, Daniel husband of Beth Zampino, of Short Hills, NJ, Tom husband of Rachel Zampino, of Port Washington, NY; six grandchildren, Steven, Bryan, Kelly, Kaitlin, Elizabeth, and Emma; one brother, Michael Zampino; and two sisters, Marie Zampino and Ann Zampino Morreale; brother-in-law, Joseph husband of Julie Cardone; and many nieces and nephews.

A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 10 AM.  Entombment will take place in Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, New York. Friends may call from 2 to 4 PM and from 7 to 9 PM at the Furman Home for Funerals 59 W. Main St. Leola on Monday July 15, 2013.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Zion Retirement Community 722 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, PA 17543.
