David L. Bontrager (81), of Intercourse, Pennsylvania, was born in Greenwood, Delaware, to Eli and Ruth Yoder Bontrager, later of Milford, Delaware. He passed away peacefully December 4, 2023 in hospice care at Lancaster Nursing and Rehab Center, 11 weeks after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma (malignant brain tumor).
David attended Milford Elementary and High School, Lancaster Mennonite School, and Eastern Mennonite College (now University).
David was employed at Hoober Inc. as a computer technician, and volunteered his computer expertise with organizations including Mennonite Disaster Service and Forest Hills Mennonite Church, where he was a member.
Following his retirement he enjoyed volunteering as scorekeeper at the softball field in Intercourse, Pennsylvania.
David was a regular participant and a leader at meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where he celebrated 25 years of sobriety in June 2023.
His last days were lived with deep peace and resignation, undergirded by a deep faith in a loving God, who “loves me anyhow” (his words).
David is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Casey) Gallucio of Bear, Delaware, Yvonne (Thomas) Nichols of Newark, Delaware; two grandchildren, Holly of Odessa, Delaware and Tyler of Havre de Grace, Maryland; and two great grandchildren, Owen and Aiden.
Burial will be private at the Eby Cemetery, Leola, Pennsylvania. A public memorial service will be held at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Rd., Leola, on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11 am.
