Doris Jane Bair, from Leola, passed to her eternal life on August 23, 2025. Doris was born February 27, 1935 to Clarence and Dorothy Martin in Lancaster.  Family was her heart and soul.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and she is survived by John Bair, her husband of 70 years, Four children; John Bair, husband of Gayle; Gregg Bair, husband of Teresa; Cindy Snader wife of Jack; Kris Shertzer, wife of Lee.  10 grandchildren; Ellie, Evan, Ryan, Hayley, Nolan, Bradley, Cassie, Aubree, Nathan, and Heather. 12 great grandchildren; Sylvia, Brayden, Bowen, Sampson, Pembrook, Raven, Milo, Norah, Nellie, Serena, Juliette, and Grant.  Her eyes would light up when she spoke of any family members, but babies were the best!

Kind, honest, spiritual, and a good sense of humor are words that come to mind.  She loved to laugh and her family kept her laughing.  Dogs always brought a smile to her face.  She loved dogs and dogs loved her.

Besides a busy family life, she was present at many sporting and music events of children, and grandchildren even traveling to Carnegie Hall to hear her granddaughter play.  Win or lose, she loved watching her “kids” play all the sports, and she was an avid Phillies fan.

Her home life was filled with baking and sewing skills and some wonderful collections of bears, Santas, salt and pepper shakers from around the world; items that will long be remembered.  She also volunteered at the Leola Library, and was involved at Highland Presbyterian Church with the Ladies Bible Study, the church library, Highlanders, and volunteering in the nursery.

With an eye for detail, her art skills were evident.  She had art classes in school at a young age that she fondly reminisced about in her last few weeks, but her art skills shone through with her coloring cards that have been given to many, many people over the years – church members, nurses, doctors, receptionists, clerks – always with the words “God bless you”, as she gave them freely.   She had skill with her eyes and hands and heart.  Her watercolors, which she started late in life, are wonderful.  Her eye for detail was amazing whether it was noticing someone’s new shoes or shirt, or the colors that blended well.

John and Doris took many trips over the years, but the beach was always a special place for them.  Her laughter at getting hit by a small wave was infectious, and we all have pleasant memories of watching her soak in the sun.

As Doris would say to end a conversation “I love you all.  God bless you”

There will be a private graveside service at Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church for immediate family only. A Celebration of Life at Highland Presbyterian Church will be held on Thursday September 4 at 11 am, with a family greeting following the service.
