Doug Horst, 60, of Palmyra, went to his heavenly home on May 8, 2024, peacefully surrounded by his family, after a 15-year battle with cancer.
Born at Lancaster General Hospital, he was the son of Harold B. and Miriam Rissler Horst of Ephrata. He was the husband of Roxy Reed Horst, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage on September 10, 2023.
He graduated from Conestoga Valley High School, class of 1981. He then went into the restaurant business as the assistant manager of Leola Family Restaurant. From there, he became the General Manager of Bird-in-Hand Restaurant, then became the COO and partner of Country Fair Restaurant. Doug’s faith and relationship with Jesus was the foundation of how he lived his life. He was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, archery, shooting guns, golfing, hiking, and gardening. He was an avid coin collector and played the drums. Above all he prioritized time with his family and treasured his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by: his daughter, Kate wife of David Wissler of Ephrata; son, Caleb husband of Jessica Horst of Lebanon; the absolute joys of his life, his 3 grandchildren, Judah Andrew, Chloe Ann & Michael Hunter; sister, Cindy wife of Dave Duffy of Leola; nephews, Jordan husband of Chrissy Duffy, and Jared Duffy.
