Douglas Lee Beck, 93, of 15 N. Hershey Ave., Leola, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday June 3, 2013 after passing away at his residence. He was the son of the late Fitzbaugh and Cebia Guthrie Beck. He was the loving husband of Virginia Lee Sullivan Beck. They were married on Sept. 8, 2004. His wife, Mildred W. Sheaffer Beck passed away on Mar. 6, 2003. Mr. Beck worked in design and manufacturing for the Ballistics Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD and later for the U.S. Postal Service, Midland, TX. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church, New Holland. A member of the New Holland American Legion and the Kaiser-Frazer Car Club, he loved cars especially his Henry J., car shows and music. During WWII, Mr. Beck served his country in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant. He was involved in the Rhineland and Ardennes campaigns and his citations included: Purple Heart Medal; Good Conduct Medal; American Campaign Medal; European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars; WWII Victory Medal. Douglas is survived by his loving spouse Virginia; son – Daniel Beck companion of Carolyn Horvath of East Petersburg; two step sons – Daniel Perry of Brownstown, Ken Yoder fiancé of Brittany Thompson of East Earl; step daughter – Vicki married to Rick Buzzard of New Holland; two step grandchildren, Danielle Buzzard and Mackenzie Diem; brother – Frank married to Jeannie Beck of Abilene, TX; sister – Virginia married to C.E. Packer of Kerrville, TX; two nieces – Sally Sheaffer and Linda Price; a nephew – John Sheaffer. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church, 758 Spruce Rd., New Holland with greeting time following the service. The viewing will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St. Leola. Private burial will take place in the Bareville Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.
