     Edith B. Smoker, 98, of Garden Spot Village, formerly of Buena Vista Rd., Gap, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014.  She was the daughter of the late David M. and Carrie Beiler Kurtz. She was the loving wife of Aaron E. Smoker who died in 2010.  They were married for 72 years.  She had been a homemaker, worked in the cafeteria at the Salisbury Elementary School and assisted her husband with the Aaron Smoker Produce & Poultry stand at Coatesville.  A member of the Maple Grove Mennonite Church, she loved quilting and gardening and was a past member of the Elverson Garden Club.

     Edith is survived by: four children,  Paul husband of Judy (Denlinger) Smoker of Intercourse, Roy husband of Lorraine (Roberts) Smoker of New Holland, Ethel wife of Howard Oatman of Fruita, CO and Arlene Anderson of Lititz; ten grandchildren, Wanda, Patti, Lynette, Jacqueline, Brian, Mark, Lisa, Aimee, Nicholas and Anthony; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband, her brothers Urie and David Kurtz and sisters Florence Smoker and Ada Kurtz preceded her in death.  She will always be remembered for her sweet smile.

     The memorial service will be on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA.  There will be no viewing; however, the family will greet friends from 2:00-3:00 PM.  Interment will be private in the Maple Grove Mennonite Cemetery.  Kindly omit flowers.  Memorials welcomed to Hospice & Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.     The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Garden Spot Village Skilled Care staff for their dedicated and loving care during Edith's 4 1/2 year stay there.
