Eugene H. Horst, 82, of Landis Homes, formerly of Bird-in-Hand, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018. Born in Brownstown, he was the son of the late Paul S. and Eva Martin Horst. He was the loving husband of Florence M. Zimmerman Horst. They observed their 59th anniversary on Sept. 19th.
Eugene was a 1954 graduate of Lancaster Mennonite School. A self-employed painter, he also had painted for Steller Painting and Papering. In later years, he operated Stumptown Transportation LLC. Eugene was a member and past trustee of James Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster. Eugene enjoyed the songs of the church, leading a cappella singing from the time of his youth and was a member along with his family of The Charlotte Street Singers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also umpired at Locust Grove for various church softball leagues.
He is survived by: his wife; three children, Mervin E. Horst, New York, NY, Darryl R. Horst, Leola, Cynthia A. Horst, Lancaster; four granddaughters, Jessica (Jeff) Kutz, Mikayla, Amanda, Sarah; a great-granddaughter, Eden Kutz; a sister-in-law, Arlene Horst, Mt. Joy. A brother, Elvin preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held from the James Street Mennonite Church, 323 W. James St., Lancaster, PA on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 4 PM. The family will visit friends from 3 to 4 PM at the church on Sunday.
