Evelyn M. (Shughart) Chronister, 81, of Akron gained her angel wings after over a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer on Christmas Day December 25, 2023.
Born in Carlisle, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Glenn Stock Shughart and the late Mary (Brown) Shughart Bistline. She was a 1960 graduate of Cumberland Valley High School and a 1963 graduate of the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing. Evelyn retired from the Ephrata Community Hospital after 35 years of service as an RN and Infection Control Coordinator.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Leola and the York Corvette Club.
Most of all, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with her family and their beach vacations. She enjoyed knitting, spring flower gardening, watching her flowers bloom, Sunday drives in their Corvette and meeting friends for lunches.
At the time of her death, Mrs. Chronister was survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard E. Chronister; two daughters – Michelle L. married to Todd Moyer, Ephrata PA, Deborah A. married to Craig Rider of Greenwood DE; two granddaughters – Lauren Moyer of Reading PA and Tayler Moyer of Ephrata PA; a sister – Linda S. married to Richard Phillips of Alexandria VA.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Road, Leola, PA. The family will greet friends after the service. Private interment of ashes will take place in Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery, Leola.
