Floyd S. (Curly) Martin

7/31/2014

Floyd S. “Curly" Martin, 82, of Lititz formerly of Leola, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 31, 2014.  He was born in Goodville to the late Rev. S. Weaver Martin and Elizabeth M. (Weaver) Martin.  He was the husband of the late Hazel M. (Smith) Martin who passed away in 2011. They were married 59 years.  For the last 13 years, he resided at Muhlenberg Lodge at Luther Acres.

Floyd retired from Ford New Holland in 1991 after being employed for 40 years. It was there he acquired his nicknames “Curly" and “Baby Beef".

Floyd served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Korean War as a medic at Fort Benning, GA. He attained the rank of Corporal.  He loved to entertain us by telling us stories about that chapter in his life.

Floyd is survived by: daughters, Carol Garman (Gerald), Karen Fisher (Richard); two foster daughters, Ann Morris and Johann Neimer; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Weber (Richard).  Floyd also helped rear a niece, Terri Kretlow (William).  He is predeceased by a son, Dean Martin and a niece, Tina Gelnett.

Floyd enjoyed riding motorcycle, camping in their RV and spending time with family and friends.  He especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren; a mention of them always brought a smile to his face.  He was a member of Salem Evangelical Reformed Church, Hellers.

This gentle giant of a man with a loving, caring heart will greatly be missed by all who knew him.  Our lives were truly blessed by his presence and life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Luther Care Activities Dept. for the care of Rosie, the resident therapy dog.

The funeral will be Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the Luther Acres Community Room (next to the Chapel), 600 E. Main St., Lititz with viewing there from 12:30 – 2 p.m.  Interment: Salem Hellers Cemetery.
