H. Eugene “Gene” Koser, 84, died Friday, May 17, surrounded by his family at Lancaster General Hospital. Born Dec. 19, 1928, Koser is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret “Peggy” (Bitzer) Koser. They formerly lived at 113 Strasburg Pike in Lancaster. He graduated from East Lampeter High School in 1946 and continued to live in Lancaster County his entire life. Koser farmed for himself and others, and worked at Turkey Hill Dairy in various capacities for 21 years. He previously worked at Martin’s Dairy. Koser enjoyed gardening, birds, holidays and taking pictures with family. He was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren. A resident of Landis Homes, where he enjoyed the campus’ peacocks and swans, Koser also is survived by one son, Gerald “Jerry” Koser (husband of Judy); two daughters, Janice Fitch (wife of William) and Julie McMullen; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Mary Koser, and five siblings. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, with Pastor J. Calvin Wenger presiding. The family will greet friends after the service. Private interment of ashes will be at the convenience of the family at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
