Harriet F. Carpenter Burkhart, 86, from Bird-In-Hand, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Nov. 12, at UPMC Lititz after a recent illness. She was the loving wife of Elvin W. Burkhart for 56 years, who preceded her in death in 2014. Born in Bird-in-Hand, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary Felpel Carpenter.
Harriet spent 41 years as a waitress at Plain & Fancy Farm. She loved playing games and spending time with her family, as well as creating flower arrangements and crafting. She enjoyed bluegrass music as part of following her husband Elvin’s musical career.
Harriet was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church, where she served alongside her husband Elvin.
She will be lovingly missed by: sons, Larry married to Jennifer Wilson Burkhart, Lancaster, Herb married to Rose Weaver Burkhart, Bird-In-Hand, Glenn married to Sherri Hershey Burkhart, Stevens; grandchildren, Anthony (Stephanie) Burkhart, Kiersie (Andreas) Scherzer, Jenna (Andrew) Butler, Courtney (Joe) Zimmerman, Ethan Burkhart, Jed (Anna) Burkhart, Preston Burkhart, Tyler Wilson, Austin Wilson; 14 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Dawn McGallicher Burkhart.
The funeral will be Friday, Nov. 17, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Rd., Bird-In-Hand with interment in the adjoining cemetery.
