Harvey L. High, 88, of Landis Homes, formerly of Leola went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. He was the loving husband of the late Emma Zimmerman High who died Dec. 15, 2010. Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Samuel and Magdalena Eberly High.
A turkey farmer, he also owned Creek Hill Motors and was a CV school bus driver. Mr. High was a board member of the New Holland Farmers Fair for 21 years. In 1990, he was the recipient of the Coble Award, a state wide 4-H accolade.
He was also a trustee and fireman for Bareville Fire Co.; chairman of the Upper Leacock Township Zoning Hearing Board for seven years; and was a member and past Sunday School secretary at the Groffdale (Brick) Mennonite Church, Leola. He enjoyed times with his children and grandchildren; spending time at his Florida home; and his car business with his son and grandson.
He will be fondly remembered by: his children, Ruth Anne married to Ernest Sullenberger, E. Petersburg, Larry married to Mae Reiff High, Lititz, Karen married to Michel Gibeault, Lancaster, Linda High married to Don Stoltzfus, E. Petersburg; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Samuel Jr., married to Betty High, Lititz; sisters, Alice Ruppert, York, Esther married to Eli Zook, Leola, Gloria married to Ivan Burkholder, Annville; a sister-in-law, Ella High, Lititz. Two brothers, Elvin and Raymond preceded him in death.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at the Landis Homes Bethany WEST Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Rd., Lititz, PA 17543 with a viewing there from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Interment: Groffdale (Brick) Mennonite Cemetery, Leola.
