Ira L. Houck, Jr., 97, passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. Anne’s Retirement Community. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ira L. and Mary Beichtel Houck. He was the husband of the late Judith Wimer Houck who died in 2005. Ira worked for Berkshire Knitting Mills as a machine operator and the US Postal Service as a mail sorter. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II and enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, gardening, reading, painting, but most importantly he loved his family.
He is survived by: a daughter, Kathleen wife of Bruce Bennett, 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Fontes. He was preceded in death by: a daughter, Louise Bowman; a son, Thomas Houck; brothers, Walter Houck, Earl Houck; sisters, Mary Fisher, Grace Persons and Ruth Spangler.
The funeral will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Rd, Leola, PA. Friends may call on Saturday from 10-11:00 AM at the church.
