Irene (Geibe) Mellott, of Lancaster, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 25, 2013 at Conestoga View Nursing Home at the age of 89. Born on July 5, 1923, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of Harvey and Lottie Geibe. Irene was the last to pass away of 9 brothers and sisters. Irene’s former husband and father to her children, Chalmer Mellott, passed away January 31, 2002. She never remarried. She was a stay-at-home mother for most of her life and later worked in garment factories to care for her 10 children. Irene attended the Abbeyville Road Christian Church of Lancaster. She loved to take in stray cats and had a beloved dog named Frenchie. Irene also liked to dress up for church and special occasions, always wearing a hat and some type of costume jewelry on her clothing. Irene is survived by all ten of her children: Roy married to Rose Mellott of Lititz, Richard married to Annie Mellott of Lititz, Linda married to Clarence Kemrer of Strasburg, Shirley married to Mel Weaver of Leola, Yvonne married to Kenneth Kramer of Lancaster, Marlene married to Walter Peters of Lancaster, Darlene married to Dale Mellinger of Strasburg, Chalmer Mellott, Jr. of Lancaster, Patricia married to James Durborow of Lancaster, and Lester married to Sue Mellott of Lancaster. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola, on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 2 PM with interment following in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster. Friends may call from 1 to 2 PM at the funeral home on Friday.
