J. Allen Hershey, 67, went home to his Heavenly Father on October 1, 2016 after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). His loving family and his strong faith in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Allen was born to the late Clair and Dorothy (Mellinger) Hershey, a Mennonite pastor and a homemaker, respectively, in Lancaster, PA.
Allen celebrated 50 years at the High companies with his family, friends and co-workers on September 14, 2016. He was known for his master craftsmanship, his strong faith and his mentorship.
Allen was blessed with a large and loving family. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that his suffering is over and he is at peace with his Creator.
Allen is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cynthia A. (Martin) Hershey; his sons Stephen Hershey, married to Mantha (Kotsalos); Bradley Hershey, married to Heidi (Johnson); his daughters Kimberly, married to John Myers; and Stacey, married to Chris Karshin; his nine grandchildren; and his sisters, Carol A. Miller and Rosemary Miller. He is preceded in death by his brother, J. Donald Hershey and his parents.
A viewing will take place at The Worship Center (2384 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601) on Wednesday, October 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Pastor Sam Smucker will officiate the service on Thursday, October 6 at 10:00 a.m. with a viewing prior at 9:00 a.m. at The Worship Center. Allen will be buried at Hershey Mennonite Church (401 Hershey Church Road, Kinzers, PA 17535). In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in honor of J.
