Jacob F. Polhemus, 92, of Downingtown, formerly of Mount Joy and Leola, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Brandywine Hospital, Coatesville.  Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Jacob and Laura Diltz Polhemus.  He was married for 65 years to Virginia Cole Polhemus.

 Jacob served in the U. S. Navy during WWII.  He had worked for Westinghouse for 42 years, retiring as a Value Engineer.  After retirement, he had worked as an usher for the Sight and Sound Theater in Strasburg.  He was an active member of the Leola United Methodist Church and had served in various positions.  He enjoyed gardening, model railroading, and ceramic crafts.

 In addition to his wife, he is survived by:  two sons, Barry J. husband of Linda Phillips Polhemus of Hawthorn Woods, IL, Dale R. husband of Mary Pat Cabrey Polhemus of Downingtown; 6 grandchildren, Brian Polhemus, Richard husband of Helen Polhemus, Amy Polhemus, Jennifer wife of Steve Maxwell, Melissa wife of Braden Steffy, Gregory Polhemus; three great-grandchildren, Charlie Ann, Megan, and Brady.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karen Polhemus, and a brother, Elmer Polhemus.

 

Funeral services will be held from the Leola United Methodist Church, 7 W. Main St. Leola on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11 AM.  Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army 131 S. Queen St. Lancaster, PA 17603.
