James H. Wolgemuth, 76, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017, following complications from cancer. He was the husband of Louise Krall Wolgemuth for 36 years. He was the son of the late Harry and Ruth Hess Wolgemuth. He is survived by his brother Carl (Lois); sister, Mary Ann (Bob) Breneman; six nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Harriet Wolgemuth.
Jim was born and resided in Bareville and graduated from Upper Leacock High School, class of 1958. After earning an engineer degree from Penn State University, Jim began working for General Motors Research Labs, Detroit, MI. He resided in Michigan for 40 years before he and his wife relocated to Brethren Village in 2002.
Jim enjoyed reading, gardening, working on cars and serving on the pit crew at car rallies as well as participating in frequent continuing education classes. He also served in many capacities at his church, 1st Church of the Brethren, Detroit, MI, and Conestoga Church of the Brethren, Leola, PA. He was a big advocate of non-violence and social change. He supported peace studies at numerous educational institutions. (Elizabethtown College, Manchester University, and Bethany Seminary).
A memorial service will be held at Conestoga Church of the Brethren, 141 E. Main St., Leola, PA on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 4:00 PM. The family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Brethren Foundation, 1505 Dundee Ave, Elgin, IL 60120-1605.
