John E. Swinehart, 91, of East Petersburg, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Walter E. and Florence Whitman Swinehart. He was the husband of Janice Wagner Swinehart.
John served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He retired from the former New Holland Machine after 35 years and also worked for Lapp Electric. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating. He was also a golf and NASCAR fan. John was a member of First Baptist Church, Lancaster.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: two daughters, Gloria wife of Scott Kleinfelter, Donna wife of Barry Simpson; two sons, John G. Swinehart, Kenneth E. husband of Patricia Swinehart; two step-daughters, Carol wife of Mark Naber, Kathleen Airhart; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Jeannette Peiffer.
He was preceded in death by: a daughter-in-law, Roberta Swinehart; brothers, Carl and Gerald Swinehart; a sister, Katherine Shirk.
Funeral Services will be held from the Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola, on Thursday, June 15that 11 am with interment following in Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 am at the funeral home on Thursday.
