John I. Eby, 84, of Garden Spot Village, formerly of Leola, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May, 12, 2013. He was the loving and supportive husband of A. Viola Landis Eby. They were married 60 years in February. He was the son of the late Chester W. and Gladys I. Yelk Eby. Mr. Eby retired from Sperry New Holland after 42 years working as a shear operator. A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, he was also a charter member of the Pleasant View Hunting Camp, Clinton County. Mr. Eby was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. An avid sports fan, he treasured time with his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he will be lovingly missed by: his children, John R. married to Lorry Miller Eby, Ephrata, Jane Y. Clement, Leola; four grandchildren, Matthew and Michelle Eby, Sam and Kerri Clement; brothers, Chester R. married to Evelyn Eby, Kinzers, Robert married to Betty Eby, Willow Street, J. Richard married to Cathy Eby, New Holland; sister-in-law, Jo An Eby, Paradise. He was preceded in death by his brother, William L. married to the late Mary Ann Eby. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Road, Leola with interment following in Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery. There will be no public viewing; however, the family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday. Kindly omit flowers.
