John L. Glick, 85 of Leola passed away at his home on Sunday July 20th, 2014 after a lengthy illness. He was born to the late Fannie and Amos Glick. He was happily married to Sylvia Dunlap Glick for nearly sixty years.
John was born one of 11 children, raised Amish, and at 17 he began working as a mason. Later, John served as a sergeant in the Army Aviation Engineers constructing barracks and airstrips both stateside and overseas. In 1960 John and Sylvia started their own business “Glick's Trailer Shop" manufacturing horse, livestock and utility trailers for over 50 years.
John was an avid horseman competing in events such as barrel racing and pole bending across PA. He also enjoyed breeding and raising Registered Quarter horses and held many horse shows at his property. John was active in numerous equine organizations including the 4-H and especially enjoyed helping the younger riders.
In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by two children: Randy, married to Sandy, Whitesboro TX and Jim, married to Melanie of Leola; a sister Sylvia, married to Sam Stoltzfus, Leola; grandchildren, Adam, Ft. Myers, FL, Brianna and Jada, Whitesboro, TX.
The public viewing for family and friends will be Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Furman Home for Funerals, 59 W. Main St., Leola. The funeral and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
