Joseph R. “Joe" Ganse, Sr., 87, formerly of 2826 Countryside Dr., Lancaster, passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017 at Conestoga View. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Elizabeth A. (Stumpf) Ganse. His loving wife of 54 years, Joanne E. (Miller) Ganse died in Jan. 2005.
He was of the Catholic faith and graduated from Lancaster Catholic High School class of 1947. He was active in baseball, basketball and football in his younger years. More recently he enjoyed sports on T.V., especially the Phillies; and auctions and flea markets.
Joe retired in 1985 as manager of accounting after 33 years service with the Lancaster Post Office. He belonged to the American Legion Post 34; Commercial Travelers Association; Eighth Ward Club; National Association of Postal Supervisors and was past president of NAPS #12. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953 at Ft. Hood, TX.
He will be missed by: a son, Joseph R., Jr. husband of Tammy Ganse of Manheim; two grandsons, Bronson (Christine) Ganse, Dane Ganse; a brother, Thomas Ganse of Lancaster; a brother-in-law, Sherwood husband of Joyce Miller of Leola. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Weidinger.
Joe enjoyed traveling and going with his wife and dog, Sandy to their cabin in Pequea. He was a great dad!
The Funeral will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Rd., Leola. Interment: Trumbauer Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the church.
