Kenneth Lawson Younger, Sr. went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 22, 2014 in Lancaster, PA. He was 91 years old.
He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Doris Hastings Younger; sister-in-law, Gloria Hastings Bickerstaff and brothers-in-law, George A. Bickerstaff, Fredrick M. Johnson, Jr., Charles G. Motley and Lowell T. Ferguson, Sr.
He is survived by his son, K. Lawson Younger, Jr. (Patti) of Vernon Hills, IL; daughter, Janet Soden (John) of Lancaster, PA; six grandchildren, Kenneth Younger III (Shannon) Andrew Younger, Rebecca Younger, Sarah Soden Crider (Ryan), Anna Soden and Daniel Soden; beloved sisters, Lois Motley and Marilyn Johnson, both of Richmond, VA and Doris Ferguson of Nathalie, VA; eight nephews and two nieces.
Kenneth was born on March 13, 1923 in Halifax, VA to William Andrew Younger and Lillian Wilson Younger. He and served in the army during WWII. After the war, he moved to Richmond and married Doris Hastings in 1949. He received his Master of Commerce at the University of Richmond and was a past President of Pohlig Brothers, Inc. For over five decades, Kenneth and Doris attended Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for many years. They moved to Lancaster, PA in 2002.
A private, grave-side ceremony was held on May 27. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA, 17601. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church (Lancaster, PA).
