     Ned E. Bard, 86, of Leola, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014.  He was the husband of the late Mary Rutt Bard who died in 2009.  Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Richard A. and Helen Good Bard. Ned and his wife were the founders and retired operators of the Ned Bard & Son Co., Leola, a trucking firm. 

     A U.S. Army Veteran and member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, he loved spending time with his wife and their dogs at their home in Avalon, NJ.  He especially enjoyed boating and fishing at the Oregon Inlet in NC.  While not an exceptional golfer, he had two holes-in-one; one at Olde Hickory and one at Meadia Heights.  Ned loved NASCAR, and in earlier years he built race cars, raced and won regularly at various speedways. 

     Surviving are: three children, Robert married to Shelley Bard, Jack married to Karen Bard, Helen Bard, all of Lancaster; seven grandchildren, Dylan, Jamie, Medea, Maya, Andrew, Mark and J.R.; ten great-grandchildren, Dylan, Sophia, Gabriella, Alyssa, Teddy, Ella, Collin, Farrah, Tahlia and Hailey.  He also leaves behind his dog and best friend, Smoke.

   He was preceded in death by: a son, Donald; brothers, Robert and Richard.

     The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 15, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Rd., Leola with interment of ashes following in the adjoining cemetery.
