The Rev. Mark A. Heiney, 85, of Marietta, formerly of Leola, went to his Father in Heaven on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
Born in Palmerton, PA, he was the son of the late Alvin and Neola (Kunkle) Heiney. A graduate of Muhlenberg College and Mt. Airy Seminary, Pastor Heiney served as a Lutheran Minister for Zion Lutheran Church, Marietta; Zion Lutheran Church, Leola; Grace Lutheran Church, Gettysburg; St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Colebrook; St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Lebanon.
A member of Zion Lutheran Church, Marietta, he was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Millersville.
Pastor Heiney was a Corporal in the US Army in the 1940's serving with the 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion of the 82nd Airborne Division. He loved Penn State sports, and he and his wife served as greeters for nine years at the Kentucky Derby.
Pastor Heiney is survived by wife of 60 years, Dolores (Ebner) Heiney; two daughters – Pamela F. Scott (Terry Houck) of Ephrata, PA, Jessica Dubois (Armand Dubois) of Yarmouth, ME; son – Noah S. Hines (Stephanie Groom Hines) of Mount Joy, PA; three sisters – Betty Dougherty of Macungie, PA, Anna (Bob) Taschler of Walnutport, PA, Diane (Steve) Batko of Palmerton, PA.
He was preceded in death by siblings: Molly Santos and Dick Heiney.
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Middletown Home for their loving care and support for the past 2 1/2 years.
Private interment services will take place at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
