Robert Allen Rushmer, 77, of Paradise, PA was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 8, 2025 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Surviving is his wife of 31 years, Pamela (Stehr) Rushmer. Born in Pearl River, New York, he was the son of the late Robert and Irene (Kerns) Rushmer.
Earning a VMD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and a PhD in Theriogenology from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine when the field of bovine embryo transfer was in its infancy, this unique path of veterinary medicine became his lifelong career. He began his own practice, Next Generation Embryo Transfer Service in 1990. In 1992, Pamela joined the practice as a veterinary technician. They married in 1994 and worked together until retiring in 2018.
Friends, family, coworkers, colleagues, and clients will remember Allen for his patience, kindness, generosity, and thoughtful, gentle nature. As a business owner his integrity was impeccable; as a boss he was a great teacher and mentor. He was always loving and loyal to friends and family (and pets!), and deeply committed to loving and serving the Lord and the family of Christ. For many years, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Allen’s life reflected the Shaker saying, “Hands to work; hearts to God.” For all who have had the blessing of knowing Allen, together we rejoice as he arrives in the presence of his Lord to hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sisters: Louise (Norman) Rose of Birmingham, AL, Peggy (Don) Baker of Frederick MD, a brother Paul (Margery) Rushmer of Chicago IL. Three nieces: Linda Nelson of Seattle WA, Kathleen (Pat) Byington of Birmingham AL, Molly (Jeff) Maier of Chicago, IL, and a nephew Vincent Baker (Kolby) of Leola, PA and families.
The family would like to thank the medical team and staff of Hospice and Community Care for their kind care. Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, June 13 at Conestoga Church of the Brethren, 141 E Main St, Leola, PA 17540 from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 14 at Zion EC Church, 247 Zion Church Rd, Pitman, PA 17964 with visitation at 10am and the service at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice and Community Care.
