Ruth I. Rineer, 96, of Leola, died peacefully on Friday, November 7 with her loving family at her side. Born in Rohrerstown, she was the daughter of the late John and Cora (Steely) Weidman.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Rineer, who died in 1988 after 51 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by her sisters Mary Cramer and Helen Herr.
Ruth was retired from Community Hospital of Lancaster where she worked in the Admissions Department for many years. She was the oldest member of the congregation of Zion Lutheran Church, Leola, where she formerly served as church organist. She was an avid, lifelong Philadelphia Phillies fan.
She is survived by her children: Patricia, wife of Robert Dority, Egg Harbor, NJ; George, husband of Saundra, Ephrata; Linda, wife of David Sheaffer, Lancaster; and Thomas, husband of Mary, New Buffalo. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and significant others who considered her their “second mother". She was a friend to many and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, 18 Quarry Rd., Leola, on Thursday, November 13 at 11:00am, with visitation beginning at 9:30am until the time of the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Ruth has requested that donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
