Sara L. Erb, a current resident of the Mennonite Home, died on Thursday, January 24, 2013. Sara lived a long and full life. She was born in 1915 in East L a m p e t e r Township, the daughter of Jacob M. Mowrer and Annie N. Graham. She graduated from East Lampeter High School in 1932 and attended Millersville State Teachers College, receiving her teaching certificate in 1934. She was married for 56 years to Clyde L. Erb, who died in 1995. Sara taught 3 years in the Soudersburg Rural School and taught 5th and 3rd grades in the Smoketown Elementary School in the Conestoga Valley District for 26 years. She was a lifetime member of PASR & LCC PASR and also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Leola. Sara played basketball for East Lampeter High School and also for the West Lampeter AA, who were Lancaster City & County Champions from 1933-1938. She played golf with the Overlook Nine- Holers and bowled in the Rocky Springs Senior League. Her love of nature took her on many bird watching trips. She also enjoyed traveling and her favorite trip was to Alaska. Sara was a plane watcher during WW II. She was also on the residents’ council of the Mennonite Home. Sara will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by two children, James D. Erb, Washington Crossing, PA and Sandra Sheldon-Mullis, Ypsilanti, MI; two brothers, Harold Mowrer and Hiram Mowrer; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren, six great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren and nieces & nephews. Her funeral will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Mennonite Home Chapel, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601 at 11:00 A.M., preceded by a viewing at 10:00 A.M., also at the Mennonite Home.
